The Whisky Lounge May/June 2016
Summer may be just around the corner but great whisky is perfect all year round! The Sheffield Tap is proud to offer you fans of the dram (or those curious about the near magical spirit) several more dates for your diary.
The Whisky Lounge is all about bringing whisky to the people through exciting and engaging events. Whether you are totally new to whisky, or further along in your journey, the Whisky Lounge is the place for you.
Wednesday May 4th – 7pm – Guide to Whisky
Just about every whisky drinker you talk to can can remember the moment (or moments) that got them into whisky.
Whether it was a friend, relative or total stranger that first presented you with a glass of swirling liquid gold, there’s one thing we all have in common… We never looked back!
Whisky truly is the most amazing spirit in the world and we’re going to show you why. Even the most experienced whisky drinkers started out somewhere and that’s what this series is all about.
If you like whisky, have a burgeoning curiosity or want to refresh your knowledge then the TWL Guide To Whisky is perfect. We want to to set you off on the right foot and make sure you don’t get sucked into some kind of never-ending spiral of whisky myth, like, ahem… Bourbon isn’t whisky (it definitely is) Or peated whisky is peaty because of the water (it’s not) Or older whisky is always better (not the case).
Wednesday May 18th – 7pm – Elements of Islay
For this series we’re taking the epic Elements of Islay collection from Speciality Brands out on tour.
These fantastic bottlings have been making waves amongst the whisky initiated for years now, but unless you’re lucky enough to spend your time hanging around in whisky specialist bars and shops you’re unlikely to come across them.
The Elements of Islay is a range of Single Malt Islay Whiskies that draws its inspiration from traditional medical laboratory labels and packaging. Indeed; even the bottle is called ‘pharmacy’. The Elements range is bottled in individual batches, typically blended from between 5 and 20 casks from a single distillery. Each bottle shows the distillery’s ‘Element’ symbol alongside a batch number on the label (eg Lp1).
Delicious, mature and unadulterated Islay whisky, bottled at full strength and assembled by a crack team of people who truly know and love whisky. Whether you’re a fan of peated whisky or not, this tasting is an absolute no brainer.
Tuesday June 14th – 7pm – Blending Workshop
Create your own blend!
It’s not all about the Malt Whisky here at The Whisky Lounge. We love ALL whisky, including (good) blended whisky.
Long ago we recognised, having dabbled in it ourselves, that blending is an art-form and is also a lot of fun.
You do not have to be a whisky expert, but you do have to come with an open mind and be prepared to apply both your palate and your brain as you construct your very own blended whisky.
You will be given the chance to try one or two classic blends to see where the benchmark lies before being let loose with your own set of whiskies and equipment.
You need to not only come up with your best possible blend, but also come up with an appropriate name for it. You will then bottle it into miniature, label it and take it home with you to proudly show it off to all and sundry!
More dates are TBC but rest assured they will be unmissable for all whisky lovers.
