It may not be news to many of you that here at the Sheffield Tap, we are part of the brewery Tapped Brew Co. Tapped beers are brewed in this very building, and you can even watch the beer being brewed three times a week! Imaging sitting there drinking a Tapped Rodeo, whilst watching more Rodeo being brewed… beerception! Our philosophy at Tapped means that we’re more than happy to take creative risks for the benefit of you lucky drinkers, and that means we have a whole array of beer that we serve throughout our venues. Tapped Brew Co. Mojo £3.10 per pint


Mojo – 3.6% Session Pale

One of our most popular pints is our session pale – Mojo. A crystal clear and fruity pale, this beer includes Marynka hops (Poland), Admiral hops (UK), Citra hops and Centennial hops (both USA). The low ABV% means that it’s a drink that can be enjoyed all night (or day, depending on what tickles your fancy). The term ‘pale ale’ actually historically refers to any golden coloured, hop-forward beer; until the 18th Century, the majority of beers were dark or amber. The term ‘pale’ was to separate any beer that had been brewed with lighter malt. However, over time the Pale Ale has become a popular genre of its own and grown lighter in colour, aroma and taste. Just like this one, actually.

Rodeo – 4.0% American Pale

An American pale isn’t too far off an English pale, apart from one major difference: the hops. Rodeo is brewed with 100% US Hops, including Sonnet, Columbus, Simcoe and Mosaic. Although American hops were initially certain cultivated English hops (we’re talking 1620s), these cultivated strains were bred with native, wild US hops during the colonisation of North America. American hop production really kicked off in the latter half of the 20th Century, with hop breeding programmes being introduced. These programmes developed nearly all of the varieties we use in Rodeo, and almost all American beers, so we’re thankful.

Porter – 5.0% Porter

Our full bodied porter with hints of coffee and chocolate pours black and has a smooth finish. Porters are at the heart of British pub culture and history, and were introduced in the early 1700s. The old wives tale goes that this dark brew was created for the The Blue Last in Shoreditch (now The Old Blue Last). Porters, and other working men, regularly frequented the pub and thats how the drink got its name and popularity. Also, notably, water used to be very unclean and it was actually healthier to drink a low ABV% beer than any other option. The kids used to drink it, too! (Disclaimer: Please do not provide your child with our 5% porter, no matter how flavoursome it may be. We at the Sheffield Tap take Challenge 21 very seriously).

Stout – 4.0% Dry English Stout

The concept of the stout evolved from the porter. Effectively, they’re one in the same. A stout is a ‘stout porter’, or a stronger porter. Yes, we’re aware that our porter is strong than our stout, but hey, beer develops and so do we. Our stout is a complex malt bill with oats, caramalt, wheat and roasted barley. It also delivers tobacco and molasses flavours, to give the beer a full body and a dry finish. We use First Gold hops, Bramling Cross hops (both UK), and Liberty hops (USA) to present what we think is the perfect stout.

Ale – 3.5% Best Bitter

Bitter, similarly to stouts and porters, has an interesting history in Britain. Traditionally, Bitter was the order given to the publican to signify the drinker did not want a dark beer or a mild. As all styles of beer evolve, the bitter did, too. Brewers usually brew two types of bitter, an ‘ordinary’ weaker bitter, and a slightly stronger, ‘best bitter’. Sheffield’s rich best bitter brewing history inspired our take on this classic style, to deliver a well balanced bitter that does what it needs to do. Lovely.

Gresley – 3.5% Pale Mild

Gresley, our Mild, has all the characteristics of a traditional mild but is pale in colour. It’s 100% UK hopped, using Goldings and Progress. The mild gained true popularity in the 1930s with Blue Collared workers, considered refreshing and hearty after a day’s manual labour. Although milds tend to be slightly darker and ruby, they also come slightly paler. Like bitter, milds can come in the form of an ‘ordinary’ and a ‘best’. Our 3.5% delivers the same refreshing and hearty experience throughout the pint, and its ABV% means it’s not too heavy.



Tapped Brew Co. Liberty

Liberty – 5.2% Black Treacle Stout

Our Black Treacle Stout is a balance of roasted barley and chocolate malts, and the bright, snappy flavours of American Liberty hops. Pouring a dark burgundy, this sweet and sticky treat is made by dissolving 10kg of black treacle during the transfer to the Copper. Think smokey brown sugar, and you’re there.


USP – 4.5% US Session Pale

This session pale is hopped with both the US Centennial and Simcoe. The Simcoe keeps a slightly spiced but fruity balance, and the Centennial compliments these aromas, like a Chinook or Cascade. The mid ABV% of 4.5% also means the USP makes for a very drinkable pale.


IPA – 5.3% English Style IPA

Our classic style IPA has a fruity body and a healthy ABV%. Characterised by it’s high level of hops and alcohol, the IPA (India Pale Ale) gained its name from its popularity in British India during the 19th Century. It’s high ABV meant that the IPA could withstand long transportation and still be just as refreshing when it reached its destination. The style of the IPA has evolved over time, and thanks to the current renaissance of beer, continues to evolve today.


S*M*A*S*H – 3.9% Single Malt and Single Hop Pale

This crystal clear session pale is made with 100% Golden Promise malt and 100% US Cascade hops. A hardy and fast-growing hop, Cascade hops give aromatics of citrus, as well as floral notes and grapefruit.
